PREP SPORTS WRAP: Pelogi, Federal Way shoot past South Kitsap; Beamer football wins 50-0

The Federal Way girls soccer team and junior forward Gabriela Pelogi were just too much for South Kitsap Thursday night.

Pelogi scored a pair of goals to give the Eagles a 2-0 win over the Wolves in the West Central/Southwest Bi-District Tournament at Curtis High School. Pelogi's goals came in the 23rd minute and again in the 50th on an assist from sophomore midfielder Samantha Cheever. Federal Way (12-3-2) now advances to a winner-to-state, loser-out match Saturday at Art Crate Stadium. The Eagles will take on Union at 2 p.m. Union, the second-place team from the Greater St. Helen's League, beat Auburn Riverside Thursday, 2-1, in overtime.

Thursday night, South Kitsap didn't have an answer for Pelogi. The junior has tallied an unreal 25 goals in Federal Way's 17 games this season.

“She got behind us twice,” South Kitsap head coach Julie Cain said. “One of the best players I’ve ever seen at this level. She was phenomenal. She was hard to stop. She’s fast — really fast. She’s strong. She’s smart. Just a very high-level player.”

The Eagles entered the postseason as the second seed from the South Puget Sound League South Division behind the Curtis Vikings. Union finished second in the Greater St. Helen's League behind Camas with an 8-2-0 record.

The winner of the Federal Way-Union game will enter the Class 4A State Girls Soccer Tournament as the seventh seed from the West Central/Southwest District and play the winner of a game between Wenatchee and Moses Lake Tuesday in the opening round of state.

Olympia 1, Thomas Jefferson 0 (4-3 shootout)

The Raiders (8-4-5) came close Thursday night against the Olympia Bears at the West Central/Southwest Bi-District Tournament in a loser-out game at Mount Tahoma High School.

The two teams played to a scoreless time during the 80 minutes of regulation and a pair of five-minute overtimes, sending the game to a penalty-kick shootout.

It was during the six-round shootout that the Bears advanced into a winner-to-state, loser-out game against Puyallup. Olympia converted on four penalty kicks, compared to three from TJ.
