PREP SPORTS WRAP: Decatur, Beamer drop football games
The Decatur football team was beaten up Saturday in a non-league game against Battle Ground, 45-14, at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
The Tigers (1-2) got three touchdown passes from Colby Cahoon and jumped out to a 20-0 lead. The Gators (1-2) couldn't get anything going offensively. Their only offensive touchdown came on a 59-yard run in the second quarter by junior Isaiah Diggs, who finished with 82 yards rushing. Decatur quarterback Isaiah Hatch had 89 yards rushing on just seven carries. The Gators had only 194 total yards and only eight through the air.
Decatur's other touchdown came on a fourth-quarter interception return by Keandre Blackshire.
The Gators travel to Heritage High School Friday for another non-league contest in Vancouver.
Spanaway Lake 28, Beamer 17
The Titans led 17-14 in the fourth quarter during a South Puget Sound League South Division football game Friday night. But the Spanaway Lake Sentinels outscored Beamer, 14-0, after that to win the game at Art Crate Stadium. The loss dropped the Titans to 1-2 on the season.
Spanaway Lake jumped on top with a 1-yard touchdown run by Joe Martin in the first quarter, but the Titans fought back with a 5-yard scoring run by Brody Martinez and a 19-yard field goal by Peter Lee to give Beamer a 10-7 lead at halftime.
The Sentinels took the lead back early in the second half with another touchdown by Martin only to have Martinez tally his second TD of the night on a 9-yard run to give the Titans the lead back, 17-14.
But Spanaway Lake got a touchdown from AJ Perez and Martin scored on a 30-yard interception return to finalize the score.
Beamer will take on Jefferson in a non-league contest Friday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
