Storm rolls into Lake Grove to host WNBA Fit Clinic
June 24, 2008 · Updated 1:08 PM
Close to 40 students at Lake Grove Elementary School got a chance to be coached by some of the best women basketball players in the world last week.
Three members of the Seattle Storm professional basketball team visited Lake Grove Thursday as part of the WNBA’s Fit Clinic. Storm players Katie Gearlds, Kim Beck and Florina Pascalau hosted the third-, fourth- and fifth-graders.
The Storm’s visit to Federal Way came about because some of the school’s physical education students did very well in the Governor’s Health Bowl in the fall.
The three Storm players shared their basketball expertise with the Lake Grove kids and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. WNBA Fit is a league-wide initiative designed to positively influence young people and women to become physically active and to raise awareness about how being fit improves health, self-image and overall well-being.
