PREP SPORTS WRAP: Federal Way soccer clinches SPSL South Division title
The Federal Way Eagles soccer team is the champions of the South Puget Sound League South Division. The Eagles secured the division championship Saturday with a 4-2 win over second-place Puyallup.
The win moved Federal Way to 13-1-0 on the season and dropped the Vikings to 9-3-3 in the SPSL South. The Eagles have two regular-season matches remaining before the postseason starts. Federal Way will play the either Jefferson (11-0-3) or Mount Rainier (10-1-3) in the SPSL title match.
Against Puyallup, the Eagles got a pair of goals from Luis Sanchez late in the game and single goals from Garrett Brewer and Odasson Pelogi.
Federal Way took a 2-0 lead in the first half on the Brewer and Pelogi goals. But Puyallup fought back to tie the game in the second half, before Sanchez tallied his goals during a two-minute span.
Jefferson — The Raiders remained on top of the SPSL North with a 10-0 thrashing of Kentlake Saturday.
Jefferson got a hat trick from Brandon Madsen, two goals each from Isidro Prado-Huerta, Mathew Cruz and Luis Alvaro Osornio and a single goal from Jake Sullivan. McKay Owsley picked up the shut out in goal for TJ.
The Raiders lead Mount Rainier by three points in the North standings and the two teams play in their regular-season finale on Friday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
Beamer — The Titans (7-4-3) were shut out by Emerald Ridge Saturday in Federal Way. Both of Emerald Ridge's goals came in the second half.
Jefferson — The Raiders (10-7 overall, 9-6 SPSL North) were beaten by Mount Rainier, 8-5, Friday afternoon. The Rams finished with just four hits, but took advantage of four TJ errors.
Kyleigh Carbon finished 2 for 4 with two stolen bases and Bailey Rundle was 3 for 3 with two RBIs for the Raiders.
