PREP SPORTS WRAP: Decatur baseball will play for SPSL 3A title against AMountainview

The Decatur High School baseball team will play for the program's first South Puget Sound League championship since 1999 Thursday afternoon, when they take on the Auburn Mountainview Lions in Federal Way.

Decatur earned the chance at the SPSL 3A title showdown by beating the Lions, 7-4, Wednesday in Auburn in a must-win contest.

The victory moved the Gators to 10-4 in league play and dropped the Lions to 11-3. If Decatur wins Thursday, the two teams would have the same record in league play, but the Gators would own the tiebreaker. Auburn Mountainview beat Decatur in extra innings in their first meeting of the season, with the Gators winning Wednesday.

Federal Way — The Eagles (3-15 overall, 2-13 SPSL South) won their second game in a row Wednesday over Spanaway Lake, 17-1, in five innings. Federal Way finished with 13 hits and Travis Layden got the win on the mound.

Rylan Cratsenberg finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs, a home run and two runs and Derek Klaas was 2 for 2 with four runs.

Jefferson — The Raiders (8-10 overall, 6-10 SPSL North) were beaten by the defending state-champion Kentwood Conquerors Wednesday, 9-4. Mark Fitzgerald was 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. Hunter Henry had the other RBI.

Fastpitch

Beamer — The Titans bounced back from a loss to first-place Emerald Ridge with a workmanlike 5-2 victory over Graham-Kapowsin Wednesday. Beamer (12-3 overall, 10-2 SPSL South) tallied two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break open a close game.

Madison Rogers allowed only five hits and struck out five in seven innings of work. Jourin Hering finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and Taylor Wiemern-Pierce was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run.
