SOFTBALL: TJ grad Patton named MEAC Player of the Week

Savannah State shortstop Michaela Patton was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) softball Player of the Week for the week of March 4-10, the conference announced last week.

In two victories over Norfolk State, the Thomas Jefferson High School graduate batted .830 (5-for-6) with two doubles, five runs and five RBIs. In game one of the double-header, Patton was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, along with three assists and one putout.

Patton, a true freshman, was perfect at the plate (3-for-3) in the second game with her second double of the week along with three RBI and two walks.  She added three putouts and one assist in the 12-7 victory.

On the season, Patton is hitting .353 with 30 runs, nine doubles, two home runs and 15 RBIs. The Lady Tigers are 21-16 on the season.

As a senior at TJ, Patton was named first-team, All-SPSL North by the league’s coaches. Patton led Jefferson to the state tournament for the fourth-straight season after setting an all-time TJ record for hits in a season with 57 and tied for highest batting average at .559. She also had a team-best 40 RBIs, scored 44 runs, 13 doubles, seven triples and one home run. Patton was also 9 for 9 in stolen bases.
