The fourth-ranked Puyallup Vikings were just too much for the Decatur Gators Friday night. Puyallup dominated the Gators, 58-7, at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
The victory improved the Vikings to 8-0 on the season and clinched the South Puget Sound League South Division championship. The loss dropped Decatur to 1-7 with two games remaining on their schedule. The Gators will take on cross-district rival Federal Way tomorrow night and will play a crossover game with a team from the SPSL North Nov. 3.
The Vikings literally ran over Decatur Friday night. Puyallup racked up 424 yards on the ground and had two running backs over 130 yards. Ricky Cooper ran for 194 yards on just eight carries and had a pair of touchdowns and Nic Shadle added 138 yards on just nine carries and one touchdown. The Vikings completed only one pass on the night a 70-yard touchdown to Tyson Rickerson from quarterback Ryan Graves.
Puyallups defense was also dominating. The Gators managed just 124 yards of total offense. Decaturs only touchdown came on a 36-yard pass from quarterback Brock Gates to Jacob Magnuson in the third quarter.
Curtis 35, Jefferson 28
The Raiders (2-6) almost pulled off a huge upset Saturday night at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. The 7-1 Curtis Vikings scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to break a 28-28 tie and clinch a berth in the postseason. Curtis quarterback Jordan Rasmussen hit Jonathan Joyner with a 20-yard touchdown pass.
Jefferson wide receiver Josh Hauck tallied two fourth-quarter touchdown catches from Taylor Stark to tie the game. Stark finished with three touchdown passes on the night.
Curtis jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a Brandon Blanks 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but TJ came right back with a 1-yard TD run by Cory Haywood to tie the game. After another Blanks touchdown, Stark hit Bryant Cameron on a 26-yard pass to tie the game at 14-14 at the half. Curtis then tallied the next two touchdowns, including a 10-yard TD on a blocked punt, to take a 28-14 lead.
Rogers 34, Beamer 13
The Titans fell to 1-7 Friday night with a loss to the Rogers Rams at Sparks Stadium.
The Beamer defense just couldnt stop the high-powered Rogers offense. The Rams rolled to 502 yards of total offense, including 293 yards on the ground. Zac Hulse and Grant Williams both ran for over 120 yards and Hulse and combined for three touchdowns for the Rams (5-3).
Beamer quarterback Cole Bixenman continued his strong season for the Titans. The junior scored both of the Titans touchdowns on a 4-yard run in the second quarter and a 2-yarder in the third. Bixenman has accounted for six touchdowns on the season and well over 1,000 yards of total offense.
Bixenmans first touchdown tied the game at 6-6 Friday, but Rogers tallied the next 20 points to take control.
Beamer will take on Thomas Jefferson Friday night at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
