Gators down Auburn

The Decatur Gator baseball team picked up one of their best victories in recent memory Friday afternoon when they downed the defending South Puget Sound League champion Auburn Trojans, 4-2.
It provides a tremendous confidence boost for our program, said Decatur head coach Steve Murphy. It is a great feeling of solidifying what we are doing to get such a quality win against such a quality opponent. We greatly respect what Auburn and (head coach) Tim Kuykendall have built and want to build that tradition at Decatur.
Fridays game looked like it could get away from the Gators early. Starting pitcher Jay Walkup walked the bases loaded in the top of the first before giving up a two-run double to Auburns cleanup hitter.
But senior left-hander Ross Humes entered with no outs in the first and threw four scoreless innings, striking out seven and allowing two hits. Junior Brad Reid threw the final three innings and allowed one hit and no runs.
The Gators offense tallied three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 2-1 Auburn lead. Brad Carter finished 1-for-1 with two runs scored and catcher Kevin Gibb was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
