FWay booters have new coach

Things have started out as good as can be expected for the Federal Way High School girls soccer team. The Eagles have rolled out to a 2-0-1 record in their first three non-league matches, including a 0-0 tie against Class 3A power Kennedy.

But first-year head coach Jason Baumgardt isn’t taking all of the credit for the impressive start. Baumgardt gives a lot of the recognition to his sister, Justi Baumgardt, who coached the Eagles last season to a 5-3-1 SPSL South record. Justi Baumgardt, a 1993 Federal Way grad, turned over the coaching reins to her brother to have a baby, which happened Sept. 1.

“We have a real organized bunch of girls who understand how to play as a team,” Baumgardt said. “We still have a long season ahead. But, overall, I’m very satisfied with where we are at.”
