The Thomas Jefferson girls tennis team claimed a share of the South Puget Sound League South Division championship with a 4-1 win over Decatur Monday afternoon. The Raiders finished the season with a 13-1 record, as did Emerald Ridge. Decatur ended up third at 11-3.

The title completes a sweep for the TJ tennis teams. The Raider boys won the South championship during the fall — both under the coaching of Andrew Buchan.

Against Decatur, Jefferson got a big win from Trichell Waldo at No. 2 singles over Juli Eubanks in the best match of the day, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Other Raider victories came from Katie Schultz and Corinna Fabre at No. 1 doubles over Amanda Font and Jill Yotz, 6-2, 6-0, Uyen Tran and Leisha Muraki over Amanda Meadows and Liz Phung at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-2, and Sarah Lee and Claudia Miernowski over Jill Humes and Dan-Vy Le at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, 6-2.

The wins by Tran and Muraki and Lee and Miernowski kept the two Jefferson doubles’ teams unbeaten during the regular season.

Decatur’s Jamie Chan beat Lacey Lowber at No. 1 singles for the Gators’ point, 6-0, 6-1.

The players now turn their attention to the postseason, which starts up today at the SPSL Sub-district Tournament at Auburn High School. The tournament continues Monday and Tuesday.
