Another year, another South Puget Sound League gymnastics title at Federal Way High School. The Eagles finished the regular season with a perfect 21-0 record with a sweep of Jefferson, Decatur and Beamer at Friday’s All-City Championships at Federal Way High School.

The Eagles tallied a school-record 178.550 points to easily outdistance second-place Thomas Jefferson (164.350), Beamer (154.250) and Decatur (153.900).

“It was a great season and we finished with a fun and awesome meet,” said Federal Way coach Bev McIrvin. “Things look good right now so we’ll do the best we can in postseason.”

Federal Way will get the postseason started by playing host to the West Central District meet Saturday. The Class 4A State Gymnastics Championships will be held Feb. 20-21 inside the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Center. The Eagles tied for third as a team at last year’s state championships.

“I have an incredibly talented and wonderful group of young ladies,” McIrvin said.

Friday night, the Eagles were led by their senior, Lauren Webb. Webb, who won a state championship on the uneven parallel bars last year, totalled 37.450 points to win the all around. Webb won the bars with a 9.4, the balance beam with a 9.65 and the floor exercise with a 9.6. She was second in the vault with an 8.8.

Federal Way actually had five of the top-six finishers in the all-around competition. Leslie McKinnon was second with 36.450 points, including a win in the vault with a 9.0. Mykel Stivers was third with 36.050 points, Brianne Hall was fourth with 35.600 and Heather Penor was sixth in the all around with 33.000. The highest non-Federal Way finish came from Jefferson’s Andrea Kasper, who was fifth with 33.750 points. Beamer’s Christy Wells finished eighth with 32.8 and Decatur’s Chantael Duke was 11th with 32.5 points.
