Jefferson clinches fastpitch championship

The Thomas Jefferson fastpitch team clinched its third South Puget Sound League South Division title in a row with a 7-2 win over the Federal Way Eagles Thursday night. The Raiders also picked up an 11-1 blowout of the Emerald Ridge Jaguars on Tuesday. The two wins improved the Raiders to 12-2 in the SPSL South and put them two games up on Spanaway Lake with two games to play. Jefferson has beaten the Sentinels both times they’ve played.

Against Emerald Ridge, Jefferson banged out 15 hits against Jaguar pitching and tallied nine runs in the final four innings, including four in the fourth. In the fourth, Amanda Guerrero led off with a single, Lindsay Radford and Chelsea Hunt followed with singles, setting the stage for senior catcher Tawnya Guthrie’s first home run of the season when she took an 0-1 pitch over the left field fence. Guthrie has already committed to play fastpitch at Witchita State University in the fall.

Amanda Herrera picked up the victory on the mound for the Raiders.

Herrera scattered six hits in her seven innings of work.

Guthrie finished the game 2-for-4 with the grand slam, a double and six RBIs. Kristy Richardson finished 3-for-5 with a run, Jessica Rakestraw was 3-for-4 with a double, one run and one RBI, Guerrero was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Chelsea Hunt was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, Lindsay Radford was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs and Jamie Salmon was 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.
