Eagles blank Puyallup 1-0, move to 2-2-1 in SPSL
The Federal Way soccer team got back on the winning track with a 1-0 victory over the Puyallup Vikings on Friday.
The Eagles got their only goal of the game in the 23rd minute when Brian Koo put one in the back of the net. The win improved the Eagles to 2-2-1 in the South Puget Sound League South Division.
Federal Way got a strong performance in goal from Seth Grisham, who held the winless Vikings to no goals.
Federal Way remains unbeaten in SPSL South
The Federal Way baseball team just continues to win games. The Eagles remained unbeaten in South Puget Sound League South action with a 6-1 victory over the Puyallup Vikings on Friday.
The win improved the Eagles to 5-0 in the SPSL and 5-2 overall.
Terry Bishop picked up his first victory of the year on the mound for the Eagles. Bishop pitched seven strong innings, limiting the Vikings to just one run on three hits and striking out seven. Bishop also hit a home run.
Brett Davis also tallied a home run for the Eagles.
Catcher Peter Livingston added two hits and a pair of RBIs for the Eagles.
Shutout of Eagles moves Raiders to 5-1 in league play
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders picked up another victory with a 7-0 shutout of cross-town rival Federal Way on Thursday.
The win improved the Raiders to 5-1 in the South Puget Sound League South Division and 6-1 overall and dropped the Eagles to 2-3 in league.
Jeffersons Ashley Osman was solid on the mound. The senior struck out 12 and allowed only three hits.
The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the first. Federal Way loaded the bases with no outs, but Osman induced a ground ball to senior Chelsea Hunt, who made a perfect throw home for the first out. Osman then struck out the next two hitters to get out of the inning unscathed.
The Raiders scored quickly in the second. Elysa Wilson lead off with a double to left field, Jessica Rakestraw walked and Amanda Herrera loaded the bases with a bunt. Hunt picked up an RBI on a single and Jamie Salmon drew a bases load walk to put the Raiders up 2-0.
Rakestraw and Hunt then both stole home to give the Raiders a 4-0 lead.
The Raiders tallied three more runs throughout the game behind hitting from Wilson and a double by Tawnya Guthrie.
Hunt finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Wilson was 2-for-4. Federal Way was led by Noelle Velecorsa, who was 2-for-3.
Decatur
The Decatur Gators picked up a solid victory over the Spanaway Lake Sentinels on Friday. The Gators downed Spanaway Lake 9-4 in Spanaway.
The Sentinels jumped all over Decatur and pitcher Kelly Claar in the bottom of the first. Spanaway Lake tallied two runs to take the lead, which lasted until the fifth. Decatur tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the game at 2-2. Spanaway Lake then scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the 4-2 lead.
Decatur broke the game open in the top of the sixth with five runs. The Gators scored two more in the seventh to finalize the score.
Claar picked up the victory on the mound for Decatur, striking out six. Samantha Ganacias was 3-for-4 with a double at the plate, Brenna Klasen finished 3-for-5 with a double and Katie Street was 2-for-4.
