Jefferson runs away from Gators

Before Friday’s basketball game, Jefferson senior Brian Mine had that feeling in his gut — and it wasn’t because he and teammate Jared Bronson just ate their traditional pre-game meal of doublestacks and Frostys at Wendy’s.

“Jared and I were talking and said we had that gut instinct that we would win this game,” Mine said. “Everybody wanted this game from the start.”

Mine scored 13 and Bronson 11 to lead Jefferson to a 69-56 win over Decatur Friday at Jefferson.

If the Raiders needed more motivation after falling short in an upset attempt against Federal Way last week, all they had to do was remember when Decatur beat them in overtime earlier this season.

“The interesting thing about this team, after the loss to Federal Way, the kids didn’t get down,” said Jefferson coach Dave Reynolds. “The kids came out and responded. This team is very good as far as bonding and chemistry. They work for each other. They support each other. I’m pleased with their hustle and attitude.

“Nobody wants to know how many points they scored. The team won and they’re happy.”
