Federal Way didn’t score for the first seven minutes of the game as the Decatur girls’ basketball team ran away with a 53-26 win Friday.

The second-place Gators kept Puyallup in their sites for first place in the SPSL South. Both teams have just one loss. FWay remained winless after seven games.

Kamrica Ary-Turner scored 16 and Jennifer Morrow 13 for the Gators. Leta Johnson led the Eagles with nine points.

Ary-Turner, Morrow and Johnson played AAU basketball together, and were teammates at Decatur until Johnson transferred prior to last season.

All three wear similar white head bands, a trend Johnson said was her idea.

“It’s fun to play against them, but a little frustrating because I’m used to playing with them,” Johnson said. “We’re a little down because of injuries but we’re coming together.”

Curtis 57, Jefferson 45

After a five-game winning streak, the Jefferson girls’ basketball team has lost its past two, most recently a 57-45 loss to Curtis Friday.

Jefferson was up 28-26 at halftime, but was held scoreless in the third quarter as Curtis took a 10-point lead.

Kelly Brown and Kristin Woller each scored 10 points for the Raiders, who are now 4-3 in league.

Chelsea Hunt added nine points while Kalei Frank and Ashley Marolf had eight points each.
