The Decatur volleyball team defeated traditionally strong team Curtis in five sets Wednesday.
It was big. Every win is critical this year, Decatur coach Kelly Kirk said. Were just really young.
The Gators started strong in the first game with a 15-10 win, then temporarily faltered by dropping the second and third games 10-15, 8-15. The Gators recovered to win the final two games 15-4, 15-4.
We gave away the second and third games, Kirk said. We made so many mistakes, all they had to do was get it over the net and we would hit it into the net or out of bounds. Finally in the fourth game we quit making those mistakes.
Decatur is starting two sophomores and three juniors.
In Wednesdays win against Curtis, sophomore Brittany Ashby had 24 assists and sophomore Allison Iwasaki had 11 kills. Senior Liz Lindstrom had 14 kills.
There are times we look absolutely fabulous and other times we look as young as we are.
Decatur played Federal Way last night, then is playing in a 20-team tournament this weekend. Look for scores and highlights in Wednesdays Mirror.
The games dont count toward South Puget Sound League, South Division standings until Sept. 26.
