Eagles get help from defense to take 38-13 victory
By COLE COSGROVE
Federal Way jumped out to a 25-0 lead against Rogers thanks to its defense and the efforts of senior Andre Piper-Jordan.
Piper-Jordan had a 31-yard fumble return after stripping the ball, a 17-yard touchdown reception and a 67-yard interception return for a touchdown as the Eagles held on for a 38-13 win Friday.
Every time I had the ball it felt like I could do anything, Piper-Jordan said. I was in my own world.
Piper-Jordan, who also punts and returns punts, averaged more than 40 yards a kick and had a few good punt returns.
He also snaps the ball to himself, Federal Way coach John Meagher joked.
Piper-Jordan, a senior defensive back and receiver, was a key spark when other offensive weapons werent working.
They took us out of our game plan, Meagher said. They had a couple of heat-seeking missiles on (running back) Anthony Dotson, but they left a few things open that we were able to exploit in the second half.
Federal Way senior quarterback Jeremy Day rushed for 47 yards, including touchdown runs of 13 and 16 yards. Sophomore running back C.J. Green had a 49-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Federal Way racked up 220 total yards, including 164 on the ground.
Federal Way hosts Decatur at 7 p.m. Friday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
