Football season kicks off Friday

The Federal Way High football team is looking to get back to the playoffs after being the odd-team out in a four-way tie for second place last season.

The Eagles had a taste of the post-season with a first-round exit in 2000 and are aiming for a return this year.

Ž“WeŽ’ve been 6-3 the past two years, so weŽ’re hoping to get over that hump, make it to the playoffs and win,Ž” head coach John Meagher said.

Leading the way for the Eagles this season is senior co-captain Anthony Dotson, who was the South Puget Sound LeagueŽ’s Defensive Back of the Year last season, in addition to second-team All-SPSL honors at running back.

Joining Dotson is 5-11, 175-pound senior Andre Piper-Jordan, a second-team, All-SPSL defensive back a year ago who will also play wide receiver.

Junior linebacker and running back Omar Arizpe is following a standout first year where he earned second-team, All-SPSL honors on defense after leading the SPSL South in tackles as a sophomore.

Junior Antonio Lindsey, who led the SPSL South in sacks last season, will help anchor the defensive line.

At quarterback, the Eagles will go with senior Jeremy Day to start the first game at Rogers on Friday, but junior Scott Lelli is challenging for the position.

Ž“ItŽ’s the hardest decision IŽ’ve had to make as a head coach,Ž” Meagher said.
