Girls youth soccer teams Blast Off

The Federal Way United Soccer Club hosted the first weekend of its annual Blast Off Tournament Aug. 9-11 in Federal Way. The girls tournament drew 80 teams from around the state. Skill levels ranged from select to recreational, at venues such as Celebration Park, Lakota and Sacajawea.
The annual boys Blast Off starts Friday and continues with the finals on Sunday.
The Federal Way Soccer Association had 15 girls teams competing in this years tournament. Seven of those teams made it to the finals in their divisions and three won championships.
In the U-14 B Bracket finals, the Federal Way United Cougars defeated the HSA Excel 2-1 to win the division. The team also won its division at last years tournament.
In the U-16 A Bracket finals, Federal Ways Reign 86 won in a shootout over Newport Pride 2-1.
The U-18 B Bracket featured an all-Federal Way final, with the Thunder facing off against the Magic. In sudden death overtime, the Magic topped the Thunder 2-1. Laura Phipps won the Sportsmanship Award.
Other Federal Way teams that advanced to championship rounds finished as follows:
U-11 A bracket: In sudden death overtime, Eastside FC 91 Blue beat FWU Reign 91 Purple 2-1. Reigns Carrissa Frazier won the Sportsmanship Award.
U-13 C bracket: SK United beat the FWSA Elite Cleats 6-1. Morgan Hickel of the Elite Cleats was given the Sportsmanship Award.
U-16 D bracket: The CYSA Timberbarons beat the FWU Shooting Stars 4-1.
U-18 A bracket: The CYSF Impact beat the FW Fireballs 1-0. Sarah Hecht was given the Sportsmanship Award.
