Prep golfers ready for state
The Federal Way area will be strongly reperesented this week when the state golf tournament tees off in Kennewick.
Although the golf teams finished the regular season back in October, the state tournament is played in May. The tournament starts Monday and wraps up Tuesday. The boys play at Meadow Springs Golf Course and the girls are at Canyon Lakes Golf Course.
At last years state tournament, the Federal Way boys golf team finished second. But key players Ian Clark and Ryan Davis didnt play in this seasons South Puget Sound League qualifying tournament, so cant play at state this year.
Leading the way for Federal Way is junior Luke Johnson, who finished second individually and lifted his Eagle team to a second-place finish at the South Puget Sound League Golf Tournament back in October.
Johnson is looking to improve on last years 13th place finish at state.
Hes joined by teammate David Piggott, who earned a trip to state when he won a playoff tie-breaker for the 16th spot at the SPSL tournament.
Jeffersons Jason Lee and Brandon Brown will also take to the field at the state tournament.
The Decatur girls golf team finished fifth in state last season, led by Katie Streets eighth place finish. Street is back again this year, looking to improve.
