Tennis teams prepare for districts

Three girls and four guys from the city are headed to the West Central District tennis tournament that starts today and continues through Saturday at Bellarmine.

Federal Way senior Clara Sacristan is the SPSL’s No. 2 seed in the singles division.

Sacristan played in the SPSL singles championship match last Thursday against Emerald Ridge’s Katie Owens. Owens won her third-straight title by defeating Sacristan 6-0, 6-2. Sacristan had better luck in the cross-over match to determine seeding. She beat Auburn Riverside’s Kristen Lorrain 6-2, 6-2 to take the SPSL’s No. 3 seed to the West Central District tournament.

Federal Way seniors Debbie Raghubeer and Danielle Yellam are competing in the doubles division.

In the SPSL South doubles championship match, Rogers’ Caitie Campbell and Ada Rosman beat Raghubeer and Yellam 7-5, 6-2.

Raghubeer and Yellam rebounded in the cross-over match to defeat Amy Goodnight and Kristina Kropf of Kent-Meridian.

In the boys district tournament, Decatur seniors Gus Joo and Neil Upsahl, the No. 2 seeded team from the SPSL, play Kevin Lynch and Tyler Hildebrand of Gig Harbor. Jefferson seniors Aaron Cho and Saun Lund,open the tournament against Danny Graham and Bryan Johnston of Capital.
