Track athletes shine at SPSL meet

Following strong performances at last week’s South Puget Sound League track meet, area athletes are hoping to do just as well at the West Central District Meet Friday and Saturday at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.

Last week, Federal Way senior Brandon Keeler won three events and took fourth in another to lead all athletes at the SPSL meet.

Keeler won the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump. He took fourth in the long jump, which was won by Jefferson senior Kamarr Evans.

Jefferson’s Jared Bronson took first place in the javelin. Decatur’s Joe Isaac won the discus and finished sixth in the shot put.

In the girls events, Decatur senior Gayle Imran won the long jump and was second in the 100 and 200, both behind LaShawnda Porter of Kent Meridian.

Imran also helped the 4x200 relay team to a first-place finish and the 4x100 relay team to a second- place finish. Right behind Imran in the 100 and 200 was her cousin, Danitra Powell, a sophomore at Decatur. Powell was third in the 100 and fourth in the 200.

Jefferson senior Danielle Freeman was second in the long jump and second in the triple jump. Federal Way senior Allison Jarstad was second in the pole vault. Other area athletes who qualified for districts in individual events include, from Decatur: Shaun Helm, J.C. Ronnfeldt, Dominique McNeal, Osheea Davis and Erica Campbell.

From Federal Way: Greg Warren, Mustafa Scott, Clint Thomson, Aaron Oravillo, William Reese, Eric Siverly, Ashley Pugh, Jessica Hafen, Erin Fitzpatrick, Heleine Kaufusi and Paige McClung.

From Jefferson: Victor Samuels, Kyle Jenkins, Charisa Alefaio, Jenerra Camozzi and Hailey Young.
