Claar one-hits former teammates

Exactly one year ago to the week, Kelly Claar struck out 15 batters and threw a no-hitter to help the Federal Way fastpitch team to a 10-0 win over Decatur.

On Monday, the two teams met again: Claar struck out 15 and nearly pulled off another no-hitter — except this year she is playing for Decatur against Federal Way.

Claar, a junior who transferred to Decatur after last season, allowed just one hit and didn’t walk anybody as the Gators beat Federal Way 8-0 and stayed in second place in the South Puget Sound League.

Decatur improved to 10-3 and keeps pace with first-place Jefferson, which is 10-0.

Federal Way’s Megan Freshour was the only Eagle to manage a hit off Claar.

Decatur’s Kaitlin Bailey was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Aubrey McCarney was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Katie Street was 1-3 with a run scored and 2 RBI. At the plate, Claar was 1-3 with 2 runs scored. Bre Klasen was 1-3 with triple and an RBI, Cristina Null was 1-3 with 2 runs scored. Lauren Morales was 1-3 with an RBI and Jamie Martello had a sacrifice RBI.

Decatur hosts Puyallup at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Federal Way hosts Emerald Ridge at 4 p.m. Thursday. Jefferson plays at Rogers at 4 p.m. Thursday.
