It took nine innings, but the Jefferson baseball team pulled out a 4-3 win over Bethel Monday at Jefferson.

With the win, Jefferson improved to 3-6 in the SPSL South Division.

“We’re not dead yet,” said Jefferson coach Mike Church.

Bethel practically gave the game to Jefferson, as it walked the bases full in the ninth inning. Johnny Wolf put the ball in play and Tyler Walker scored from third base when a Bethel player committed an error.

Walker was 3 for 4 in the game with three singles. Andrew Logan was 2 for 2. Danny Clark hit a home run for Jefferson.

Raiders pitcher Chris Evans earned the win to improve his record to 1-1. He pitched all nine innings, struck out 14 and allowed just three hits and two earned runs.

It was his first game back after not being able to play in the middle part of the season.

“We’ve been waiting for a while to get him back in there,” Church said. “He can stay tough in the later innings. He held them off until we could score the winning runs.”

The Raiders have a full week of baseball ahead of them. Jefferson hosts Mount Rainier at 4 p.m. today at Jefferson in a non-league game, then plays at Decatur on Thursday.
