Evergreen Lutheran takes sixth at state

The Evergreen Lutheran boys basketball team finished sixth place in the Class B state tournament after a 63-49 loss to Wilbur-Creston Saturday at the Spokane Arena.

Evergreen Lutheran’s Walter Juergens scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but it wasn’t quite enough in the game for third place.

Evergreen Lutheran, a private school located in Des Moines, started the state tournament with a 48-47 win over Curlew on Feb. 27 at the Spokane Arena.

It followed with a 58-49 win over Pe Ell in the second round.

Evergreen Lutheran made it to the final four, but lost to eventual state champion Sunnyside Christian, 50-33, on Friday.

Coached by Dave Habeck, Evergreen Lutheran finished the season with a 22-6 record. Team members include Adam Asadi, Philip Bubler, Aaron Carr, Andy Daniels, Matt Duble, Nic Habeck, Walter Juergens, Jordan Kern, Caleb Kurbis, Philip Kurbis, Richie Nylander, Christopher Poetter and Joel Stuebs.
