Federal Way, Jefferson boys both lose Saturday

The Federal Way boys basketball team lost to Curtis 65-59 on Saturday.
The teams were tied at 24 at halftime, but Curtis pulled away in the second half, led by Matt Bogrands season-high 32 points to drop the Eagles.
Nate Sanchez scored 18 points for Federal Way and Brandon Chavers scored 16. Andre Piper-Jordan scored 12. Brad Mahlstedt scored seven and Jason Carlson scored six.
Federal Way is 8-5 in the SPSL and 10-7 overall. With a win, the Eagles could have all but wrapped up third place in the South Puget Sound League.
Federal Way played at Jefferson last night. Its next game is at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 5 at Rogers. Federal Way finishes out the regular season against Decatur at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Federal Way.
Decatur had a bye on Saturday, but played at Bethel last night.
Decatur is 3-9 in the SPSL and 4-12 overall.
The Gators play Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 1. They play at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at Emerald Ridge, then finish up at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Federal Way.
Spanaway Lake 80, Jefferson 62
Jefferson lost to Spanaway Lake 80-62 on Saturday.
Spanaway Lake led 48-30 at halftime, but Jefferson came out strong in the third quarter. The Raiders cut the lead to nine at 61-52 at the end of the third quarter, but Spanaway Lake held on for the win.
Jeff Shearer scored a season-high 33 points to lead Spanaway Lake.
Matt Englund led Jefferson with 25 points. Myron Hennings scored 17.
Englunds average of 21.2 points per game ranks third in the state among Class 4A players. Englund has 297 points in 14 games this season. Brandon Roy of Garfield leads the state with a 23.9 average 311 points in 13 games and Stanwoods Marcus Steele is second with a 21.4 average 300 points in 14 games.
Jefferson is 2-10 in the SPSl and 4-10 overall.
The Raiders played Federal Way last night. Their next game is at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at Decatur. After that, the Raiders play at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at Bethel.
