TJ boys earn first win of the season

The Jefferson boys basketball team earned its first win of the season.

The Raiders defeated Spanaway Lake 71-53 Friday at Jefferson.

Jefferson was led by the scoring duo of Matt Englund and Myron Hennings.

Englund, a senior who lead the South Puget Sound League in scoring, kept up his pace. He poured in 26 points.

Hennings, a junior, scored 21 points and Dominique DeGrate added 10 points to help Jefferson improve to 1-4.

Jefferson plays this week in the Kitsap basketball tournament.

The SPSL season resumes on Jan. 4

Girls games

The Jefferson girls basketball team rebounded for a win after stumbling with back-to-back losses.

Jefferson beat Spanaway Lake 60-52 Friday at Spanaway Lake. Michelle Morse, the South Puget Sound League’s leading scorer, scored 29 points to lead the Raiders. Jessiye Clark and Shannon Morse scored eight points each.

The Federal Way girls basketball team lost to Curtis 45-32. Cassandra Simpson and Heleine Kaufusi scored eight points each to lead the Eagles.

The Decatur girls beat Central Kitsap 63-53 in a non-league game.
