Just because school is out doesn’t mean area sports teams can sit back and rest by the fireplace during winter break. Just about every team is not only keeping busy with practices, but also with holiday tournaments.

The Jefferson and Decatur wrestling teams get things started today at the Highline Community College tournament. The Federal Way wrestling team planned on participating in the Kennedy Tournament, but is still quarantined after a wrestler contracted the herpes virus. The team should be back on the mat by Dec. 26.

The Decatur boys basketball team travels up to the Bellevue Community College Holiday Tournament Dec. 27 through Dec. 29. At the same time, the Federal Way boys team is playing in a tournament at Bothell and the Jefferson boys basketball team is competing in the Kitsap tournament.

The Decatur wrestling team sheds the holiday pounds to compete in Vancouver, Wash., at the Evergreen Tournament Dec. 28-29.

On Dec. 29, the Federal Way girls basketball team plays in the Roosevelt Tournament in Seattle.

The Decatur, Federal Way and Jefferson gymnastics teams compete in the Coaches Association Invitational meet on Dec. 29.
