TJ, Decatur wrestle to victory

The Jefferson wrestling team took the mat for the first time this year and came away with a 40-28 win over Bethel Wednesday.

“It was a tough battle,” said Jefferson coach Brett Lucas. “We aren’t in shape yet, but we’re working toward it. We want to peak at the state tournament, not our first dual match.”

Key matches of the night include Nick Vincent getting started with a pin in the second round, Jon Cherian and Brian Moehrle getting pins later in the match and a technical fall from David Markey.

Other winners include Travis Wilson at 189 pounds who major defeated his opponent 21-11, James Campollo who pinned his man, Kevan Haack who won 7-1 at 140 pounds and Todd Turner’s major defeat, 15-3, at 145 pounds.

“We are excited and nervous for our match against Curtis,” Lucas said.

Curtis beat Jefferson 39-24 Thursday.


The Decatur wrestling team continued its dual-meet winning streak with a 40-25 win over Spanaway Lake.

Earning pins for the Gators were Jon Joseph at 112 pounds, english at 119, Erik Honda at 145, Jason Bressler at 160, Kyle Bressler at 171 and Dan Esbenshade at 189.

Other winners included Ryan Cossano at 135 pounds with an 11-5 win and Brandon Bell at 140 pounds with a major defeat, 16-4.
