" Decatur Athletic Director Greg Flynn announced Friday that Colby Rogers was hired as the new head girls basketball coach. Rogers replaces Gary Baker, who retired in March after coaching the Gators for 20 years. I'm just excited to take over the program and see where we can go, Rogers said. Rogers has been in the program for five years as a junior varsity coach and a varsity assistant. He was an assistant coach on the bench with the team when it made its run to a fifth-place finish at state in 2000. Six players return from last year's team, including starters Jennifer Morrow, Dekeidra Brewer and Cristina Null. Other returners with varsity experience include Gayle Imran, Leta Johnson and Kia Oliver. I look forward to working with the kids we have coming back, and I look forward to working with the kids coming into the program, Rogers said. The next few years have the potential to be quite exciting. "
