Gator gymnasts ranked 9th in state

"The Decatur gymnastics team proved Wednesday why it is the ninth-ranked team in the latest Washington state AP poll. Decatur's score of 169.25 was good enough for a solid victory over Sumner (167.2), Kent-Meridian (145.2) and Tahoma (140.1). Decatur was led by strong performances in the all-around by Kelly Miller, who took first with a 34.85, Kelly McKay, who was second with a 34.5, and Lindsey Edwards, who was fourth with a score of 34.3. Sumner's Leslee Weldenbach broke up the Decatur sweep of the all-around with a third place finish with 34.4 points. This was our last home meet of the season and we are very happy with how well our team performed tonight, said Decatur coach Mandy Tommervik. They looked confident out there. It was nice to have our seniors end their last home meet with a win. We will miss them all. Katie Johnson, Michelle Morehouse, Lisa Schiefelbein, Angie Jenkins, Chrissy Larson, Stephanie Bacon and Lindsey Edwards. They are getting closer to reaching their team goal of a 170.0 this season.Decatur looks to continue its winning ways against Jefferson and Federal Way in the last regular season meet of the season at 7 p.m. on Jan. 31 at Federal Way High School. All three teams are still in the running for a playoff spot. "
