Runners gain experience at state
June 13, 2008 · Updated 1:44 PM
The Jefferson girls cross country team and Decaturs Chris Williams all ran strong at the state cross country meet Saturday in Pasco. But best off all, they expect to return again next year.
Williams is only a junior and Jefferson will lose just one runner senior Hailey Young.
The rest of the Raiders are poised to begin a running dynasty the next few years, with four freshman and two sophomores on this years state team.
In the boys race, Williams finished 50th in 16:40. Jesse Fayant of Mead won the 3.1 mile race in 15:30.
As a team, the Jefferson girls placed 14th with a score of 344. North Central of Spokane was first with 80 points.
Jefferson sophomore Tera Brockman was the first Raider across the finish line. She was 66th in 20:28, the best race of her season.
The next four Raider finishers ran together, as they have all year, and finished within 10 seconds of each other.
Jefferson freshman Jessica Schroeder was 107th in 21:26 followed closely by fellow freshman Chelsea Dier at 109th in 21:28. Senior Hailey Young was 114th in 21:31. Sophomore Amy Miller was 118th in 21:36.
Freshman Alyson Hunt was 130th in 22:04 with freshman Erin Schroeder right behind her at 131st in 22:13.
