BASKETBALL WRAP: Federal Way boys, Beamer girls continue early-season unbeaten runs
Malik Montoya led the second-ranked and unbeaten Federal Way Eagles boys basketball team to an 80-61 win over the Puyallup Vikings Tuesday.
The sophomore poured in a career-high 24 points to lead for Eagles in double figures. Federal Way (7-0 SPSL South) used an impressive second quarter to open up a close game. The Eagles outscored Puyallup, 28-16, in the second quarter.
Brayon Blake finished with 19 points and D'Londo Tucker and DeeShawn Tucker both finished with 12.
Beamer — The Titans got a career-high 35 points from Juwan Flowers during a 76-45 blowout win over Graham-Kapowsin Tuesday. Beamer (6-2 overall, 4-2 SPSL South) jumped all over the Eagles in the first quarter, taking a 22-8 lead.
Bogdon Blivenyuk finished with 15 points and Trey Burch-Manning had 13 points.
Jefferson — The Raiders (5-2 overall, 4-2 SPSL North) dropped their second SPSL North game Tuesday on the road to Auburn, 62-56. Jefferson led 50-47 entering the fourth quarter, but were outscored, 15-6, during the final eight minutes.
Daryon James led TJ with 15 points, Tyshawn Webster-Piper finished with 12 and Deonte Anderson had 11.
Decatur — The Gators dropped their first SPSL 3A Division game Tuesday night on the road to the Lakes Lancers, 66-58. Decatur () led 34-33 at halftime, but the Lancers outscored the Gators, 33-24, in the third and fourth quarters.
Decatur got 19 points from Jason Young and 16 from Kevin Locascio.
The Todd Beamer Titans (7-0 overall, 6-0 SPSL South) remained unbeaten with a 51-point win over the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles Tuesday, 58-7. The Titans jumped out to a 28-2 lead after the first quarter and took a 45-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Beamer was led by 15 points from freshman Quinessa Caylao-Do, junior Megan Huff had 14 and freshman Nia Alexander chipped in 13.
Federal Way — The Eagles (7-2 overall, 5-2 SPSL South) lost their second SPSL South game Tuesday to league-leading Puyallup, 74-58. Federal Way got 36 points from all-everything guard Raven Benton. But Benton, who is averaging 28.0 points a game, was the only Eagle in double figures against the Vikings.
Jefferson — The Raiders (2-6 overall, 2-4 SPSL North) dominated the Auburn Trojans Tuesday, 65-39. Jefferson was led by the Piper sisters, who combined to score 40 points.
Older sister, Jada Piper, poured in 22 points and Jaylynn Piper chipped in 18 points for the Raiders.
