2007 spring sports state championships

Class 4A State Track and Field Championships

Where: Edgar Brown Stadium, Pasco.

Today’s schedule: Field event finals begin at 9:30 a.m. Running event finals begin at 10:30 a.m. Awards ceremony begins at 3:40 p.m.

Tickets: Single-day admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens.

2006 team champions: Wilson boys, Olympia girls.

Federal Way angle: Decatur snared three West Central District individual crowns last weekend when Gena Woodke won the discus, Amanda Stewart won the high jump and Ezra John Griffey took home top honors in the 200 meters. Jefferson’s Kenna Patrick finished second in the 1,600 and 3,200 and teammate Jennifer Wamsley qualified in three events — high jump, long jump and triple jump. Federal Way’s Jacqie Evenson was second in the 300 hurdles and Jeffrey Forbes finished second in the 400. The Beamer boys 4x100 relay team should also be a state-title contender.

Class 4A State Soccer Tournament

Where: Harry Lang Stadium, Lakewood

Today’s schedule: Third/fourth game at 3 p.m.; Championship game at 7 p.m.

Tickets: Single-day admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens.

Federal Way angle: The Federal Way Eagles are making their first appearance in the state’s Final Four since 1979. The Eagles played Cascade of Everett last night (after press time).

Class 4A State Softball

Tournament

Where: South End Recreation Area (SERA), Tacoma

Today’s schedule: Games kick off at 11 a.m. with the championship game being played at 4:30 p.m.

Tickets: Single-day admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens.

2006 champions: Prairie

Federal Way angle: Jefferson rolled into the state tournament for the first time since 2002, which was their only other appearance. The Raiders earned the ninth and final seed from the SPSL after finishing fourth in the North Division. But won three straight games at districts to earn the fourth seed into state. Jefferson would have had to win two games yesterday (after press time) to be playing today.

Class 4A State Tennis Tournament

Where: Vancouver Tennis Center

Today’s schedule: Consolation and winner’s bracket matches start at 8:30 a.m.

2006 team champion: Bellarmine Prep

Federal Way angle: Beamer senior Judy Liening is the only Federal Way qualifier. This is the first year Liening has played singles. She placed with partner Megan Havili her sophomore and junior years. Last season, Liening and Havili finished second.
