• Todd Beamer High School is hosting a girls basketball camp for girls in third through eighth grade. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Todd Beamer High School June 25-29.

• BuDu Racing is hosting a pair of triathlons at Five Mile lake park in Federal Way this month. The first will be today and will kick off at 8 a.m. at Five Mile Lake Park.

The sprint-distance triathlon will include a 400-meter swim in Five Mile Lake, a 14-mile bike ride and a 5-kilometer run. The bike ride will take place along Military Road, 38th Avenue South, 33rd Place South, South 349th Street and 28th Avenue South. The run will go along Military, South 360th Street and 32nd Avenue South.

Registration for the triathlon is $65 and is limited to the first 500 participants and is open to men and women. The second triathlon is a womens-only event and will be held on June 30.

• The Federal Way Track Club has begun sign-up for the 2007 Summer Track and Field season. Events offered during the summer program include sprints, middle distance, distance, steeple chase, high jump, pole vault, hurdles, shot put and discus. Practices are at the Thomas Jefferson High School track. The program provides an eight-week summer session for athletes between the ages of 8 and 18.

The younger athletes (8-12) will practice between 6:30-8 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through July 18. This age group participates in the Hershey Track series and the Park Olympics track series. The older athletes will practice from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through July 19. This group participates in the Park Olympics track series and USATF track series.

• Sidney Solomonson, a Decatur High School senior golfer, has accepted the prestigious Chuck Evans Scholarship. The Evans Scholarship is the largest privately-funded scholarship in the nation, and candidates must have a strong caddy record, carry a high grade-point average and have strong character and integrity. Solomonson has committed to attend Washington State University in the Fall as an Evans Scholar. She is planning to major in business with emphasis on advertising and marketing.

Solomonson will be playing at the Class 4A Girls State Golf Championships next month in Bellingham.

• Team Buchan Tennis will run a series of youth tennis camps and lessons during the summer at two Federal Way locations, Thomas Jefferson High School and The Marine Hills Swim and Tennis Club. Camps run for the entire month of July and classes are available for players ages 5-18, beginner through high school varsity ability levels.
