LadyHawks finish ninth at Gold Nationals
The Washington LadyHawks 18-and-under fastpitch team ended up as the ninth-best team in the nation last weekend at the Gold Nationals in Oklahoma City. The tournament included 64 teams and the LadyHawks were the lone representative from Washington.
The LadyHawks roster includes Todd Beamer High School graduate Jade Clare and Decaturs Morgan Bright and Lindsey Bright.
Vouchers for $1 off a $9 regular-priced reserve ticket to a Tacoma Rainiers baseball game Aug. 22 are available, while supplies last, at the Federal Way Goodwill store, 32521 Pacific Highway S.
Goodwill seeks gently used, ready-to-sell clothes and household items. A Rainiers voucher will be distributed for each donation visit. The vouchers can be exchanged at the Tacoma Rainiers box office at Cheney Stadium.
The Federal Way United boys under-12 Storm Green soccer team took home the championship at the Spokane River City Tournament. The Storm entered the championship round as the fourth seed before knocking off the first seed, Spokane Sabers Yellow, in the semifinals, 4-3. They then beat the No. 2 seed Wenatchee Fire in the championship game, 5-0.
The team includes Collin Peterson, Alek Lilleskare, Ben Anglesino, Jake Gregg, Nick Zuehlsdorff, Keaton Kerr, Nick Boatright, Jayce Brewer, Marcos Ardiente, JJ Hegenauer, Garrett Brewer, Glenn Carpenter, Ben Willis, Kyle Barnes and Payton Berens. The team is coached by Darin Pool.
Federal Way Young Life will host the 4th annual Federal Way Young Life Golf Classic, held at the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club, on Aug. 30. The event will raise money toward their $60,000 goal to support Young Lifes yearly operational budget.
The 18-hole scramble tournament will conclude with a banquet and awards ceremony at Twin Lakes. Prizes will be awarded for first- and second-place winners (mens and womens), long drive, closest to the pin and more.

The City of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department will host the sixth annual Waterland 5-kilometer Run and Fun Walk at the Des Moines Marina on Aug. 25. There are many divisions to choose from for boys, girls, men, and women of all ages. The race will start at 9 a.m. and check-in will begin at 7 a.m. Cost at pre-registration is $20 until Aug. 17. Race-day registration is $25.
