The No. 1-ranked Todd Beamer Titans girls soccer team hadn’t lost a South Puget Sound League South Division match in three years.

That all changed Tuesday night when Kelsy Villagas scored the only goal of the match in the 19th minute as Graham-Kapowsin upset the top-ranked Titans, 1-0, at Art Crate Field in Graham.

The loss dropped Beamer to 13-1-1 in the SPSL South and improved Graham-Kapowsin to 8-6-2. The Titans had already clinched the South’s No. 1-seed into next week’s SPSL Tournament. Beamer will face the unbeaten Kentwood Conquerors at 8 p.m. at Federal Way Memorial Stadium Wednesday night. The winner will get the SPSL’s top seed into the West Central District Tournament.

Kentwood beat Beamer in last year’s SPSL Championship match, 2-1. Following the loss, the Titans went on to win four-straight postseason matches to roll into the Class 4A state title match, which Beamer lost to Eastlake in a penalty-kick shootout.

The Titans’ last loss in the SPSL South Division came on Oct. 27, 2005, when the Thomas Jefferson Raiders beat Beamer, 1-0. Since that time, the Titans had went 42-straight SPSL South matches without a loss.

Beamer won the 2006 South title with a 13-0-1 record, rolled to the ‘07 title with a perfect 14-0-0 season and had already clinched this year’s South Division championship after rolling to a 13-0-1 record through their first 14 matches.

The Decatur Gators improved to 9-5-1 and remained in third place in the South with a 9-0 victory over Spanaway Lake Tuesday night. The win also clinched the Gators a spot in the SPSL Tournament as either the third or fourth seed from the South.

Decatur got a pair of goals from Sarah Isaac, Stephanie Kirk and Krystal Arredondo and single goals from Ashley Graves, Carissa Frazier and Lauren O’Neal. Kayla Lipston and Allison Lewis combined for the shutout in goal for the Gators.

Federal Way improved to 6-6-3 with a 1-0 win over Auburn Tuesday night, 1-0. The Eagles’ Haley Ward tallied the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute and Sam Freed got the shutout in net.

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders and Todd Beamer Titans won’t go winless in the South Puget Sound League. But the Federal Way Eagles and Decatur Gators weren’t so lucky.

The Raiders swept Federal Way Tuesday night, 25-11, 25-18, 25-14, and Beamer beat Decatur in four games, 25-13, 25-11, 18-25, 25-21. The two wins improved Jefferson to 1-7 in the SPSL North Division and improved Beamer to 1-7 in the SPSL South.

The dropped Federal Way and Decatur to 0-8 in their respective divisions.

Jefferson was led by the 21 assists and three aces of Allie Crowe. Morgann Green contributed 11 kills, Rachelle Eckert tallied five aces, Kendra Ansotigue had four aces and Diana Malamura finished with three aces.

Beamer got a big night from McKenna Grotefend, who torched Decatur for 16 kills Tuesday night. The Titans also picked up 22 assists from Alex Schultz and 11 kills from Ericka Duffy.

The Gators were led by the 16 kills of Nicole Mareko, 23 assists from Mindy O’Meara, 20 digs from Lorena Lopez and five kills and eight aces from Christina Sessoms.
