BASEBALL: Federal Way, Moran outlast Curtis, 3-2

The Federal Way Eagles (4-4) tallied three runs in their last two at bats Thursday to pull out a 3-2 win over the Curtis Vikings at home.

Curtis took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and had their ace, Madison Alder, on the mound. But the Eagles tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Federal Way then tallied the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the seventh off Adler.

Eagle senior left-hander Darrien Moran threw the complete-game on the mound, striking out 11 and allowing only one earned run and three hits.

Offensively, Federal Way was led by J.P. Covello, who finished 2 for 3 with a run and a pair of RBIs. Zack Hobbs had Federal Way's other RBI and was also 2 for 3 at the plate.

Beamer — The Titans (6-4) gave up five runs in the top of the sixth inning and lost to Rogers, 6-0, Thursday afternoon at home.

The Beamer offense again struggled against Rogers. Beamer had only two hits against starter Stefan Van Horn and also made five errors in the field. Richie Apigo had both of the Titans' hits.

Matt Bower suffered the loss on the mound, allowing one run in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Decatur — The Gators (2-9) split a pair of SPSL 3A Division games Friday and Saturday. Decatur was shut out by Bonney Lake Saturday, 8-0, and beat Lakes, 11-6, on Friday afternoon.

Against Lakes, the Gators pounded out a season-high 17 hits against the Lancers' pitching. Brett Johnson led the way, finishing 2 for 2 with five RBIs, three runs and a double. Derik Bontempo ended up 2 for 2 with three runs and a double. Jason Wiley picked up the win on the mound for Decatur.

Against Bonney Lake, the Gator offense couldn't get anything going against Mike Gould. Decatur had only three hits on the game.
