Federal Way will play host to four Division I fastpitch softball games. Seattle University will play the Wolverines of Utah Valley State in Pacific Coast Softball Conference action on April 14-15. The games will take place at the Federal Way National Little League Complex, which is located at 450 SW Campus Dr. The first games will kickoff at noon each day and admission is free.
Seattle University's roster features 2010 Todd Beamer High School graduate Sarah Petosa. She is one of eight players on the Redhawks' roster from the state of Washington. Other South Sound natives include Erin Crowley (Kentlake High School), Becca Cable (Stadium), Bubba Morrow (Auburn) and Lisa Moulden (Tahoma).
Petosa is leading the Redhawks (10-17 on the season) in hitting this season with a .356 average. She has started 26 games and has a team-best 31 hits, one double, 10 runs, and 12 RBIs. She is also leading Seattle U in stolen bases with three.
Last season, Petosa started 45 of 46 games and led the Redhawks in runs (30) and stolen bases (11), and finished second in hits (38) and on-base percentage (38.3 percent). She finished the year with a .286 batting average, but reached upwards of .300 during the season.
"This year's team is going to definitely compete well throughout our season," head coach Dan Powers said. "We've got a lot of new players with good energy. It's the most talented team we've been able to put together since we moved up to Division I."
The games are being played in Federal Way because Seattle University's on-campus home, Logan Field, is being renovated. The Federal Way National Complex will also host the Redhawks' four-game series against Northern Colorado on April 28 and 29.
