PREP SPORTS WRAP: Eagles, Lewis outshoot Beamer in soccer, 2-1; TJ softball loses SPSL North battle

The Federal Way Eagles boys soccer team has started the South Puget Sound League South Division season in impressive fashion. The Eagles moved to 2-0-0 Tuesday with a 2-1 win over cross-town rival Beamer at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

Alex Lewis tallied both of the goals for the Eagles. The first goal came in the 30th minute to tie the game at 1-1 on a pass from Luis Sanchez. Lewis scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute on a pass from Sean Rigney.

Beamer's (1-2-0) lone goal came in the 20th minute from Ang Ta on a pass from Keaton House.

Decatur — Michael Klavuhn continued his early-season scoring spree Tuesday by scoring both of the Gators' goals during a 2-0 non-league win over Steilacoom. Klavuhn has eight goals for unbeaten Decatur in four matches.

The Gators (4-0-0) also have non-league wins over Stadium, Capital and Timberline. Klavuhn had four goals during a 5-1 win over Timberline on March 15.


Jefferson — In a battle between two of the favorites in the SPSL North, the Tahoma Bears outlasted the Raiders Wednesday at TJ, 6-5. Jefferson outhit the Bears, 11-9.

Michaela Patton was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Annalise Campbell was 3 for 3 for the Raiders.

Jefferson bulldozed the Decatur Gators Monday in a non-league contest, 27-0, in five innings. The Raiders pounded out 21 hits and scored at least six runs in four innings.

Rocky Hale struck out 13 and allowed only two hits to get the victory on the mound for TJ.


Beamer — The Titans needed just five innings to beat Spanaway Lake in SPSL South action Wednesday, 14-0. Beamer (3-0) tallied eight runs in the first inning and Taylor Davis allowed only one hit in three innings of work to earn the win on the mound.

Offensively, Beamer was led by Brett Oyer, who was 3 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs. Lawyer Braun finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a triple and Scott Sunitsh was 2 for 2.

Jefferson — Tahoma handed the Raiders a 7-3 loss Wednesday in both teams' SPSL North opener at TJ. The Bears tallied five runs in the top of the first and the Raiders couldn't recover.

Nico Delacruz had both RBIs for Jefferson and finished 2 for 3 with a double. Steven Sonnenfeld was 1 for 3 with a double and a run.

Federal Way — The Eagles squeaked by Bethel Tuesday in their SPSL South opener, 7-6. After being tied, 1-1, Federal Way tallied six runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding 7-1 lead. But Bethel scored five runs in the top of the seventh to tighten the game.

Rylan Cratsenberg finished 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs and Ryan George was 2 for 4 with an RBI and double for the Eagles. Darrien Moran struck out seven in six innings of work to get the win.


The Todd Beamer boys rolled over Jefferson Wednesday in their SPSL opener, 95-41.

Beamer got wins from Willie Roach in the 100 meters (11.57) and high jump (6-0), Chaos James in the 200 (24.55), Austin Jex in the 800 (2:11.60) and 1,600 (4:40.81), Daniel Kubay in the 3,200 (11:11.29), Austin Hitchcock in the 110 hurdles (16.17) and 300 hurdles (40.39), Adrian Shocks in the long jump (19-11) and triple jump (39-11.5).

Jefferson picked up three wins from Jefferson Aumua in the shot put (43-11), discus (118-1) and javelin (110-0). Kendall Green won the 400 (52.96) and Thomas Goldingay won the pole vault (10-6) for TJ.

On the girls' side, Jefferson won a tight meet over Beamer, 75.83-65.16. Senior Lindsey Dahl won four events for TJ, including the 100 hurdles (16.56), 300 hurdles (50.31), long jump (17-0) and triple jump (34-4). Jefferson's other wins came from Vanessa Church in the 800 (2:37.09) and 1,600 (5:40.84), Leah Kiyohara in the 3,200 (12:01.16), Kaya Warrior in the shot put (33-5) and discus (78-9), Chevay Warnes in the javelin (64-3) and Montana Pellegrini in the pole vault (10-6).

Beamer got wins from Alanna Vann in the 100 (12.61) and 200 (26.16), Chante Sposter in the 400 (1:00.69) and Tana O'Connell in the high jump (5-0).

Decatur — The Gators swept Bonney Lake in an SPSL 3A meet Tuesday. The boys won a nail-biter, 68-66, and the girls beat Bonney Lake, 82-55.

On the boys' side, Decatur's wins came from Dalvin Yarbrough in the 100 (12.65), Justin Njuguna in the 200 (25.9), Gerardo Garcia in the 3,200 (12:41.25), Drew Thompson in the 110 hurdles (16.27), long jump (18-9) and high jump (6-2), Cody Vanderlin in the 300 hurdles (47.31), Jordan Wernet in the shot put (42-10) and Kenny Kim in the discus (119-8).

On the girls' side, Decatur's wins came from Sierra Shugarts in the 100 (13.94), Leah Johnson in the 200 (30.31), Jenelta Yates in the 400 (1:04.61), Tori Zellerhoff in the 1,600 (5:40.0), Sydnee Patin in the pole vault (8-6), Ericka Budinich in the long jump (15-0) and Desi Kamm in the triple jump (30-6).


Decatur — The Gators kicked off the SPSL 3A season with a 4-1 win over Lakes on Monday, but followed with a 5-0 shutout loss to Auburn Mountainview on Wednesday.

Against Lakes, Decatur got wins from Alicia Hansen at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-0, Jessica Kim at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1, Soyean Kim and Maddy Bergstrom at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-1, and Anna Murnen and Kayla Adrian at No. 3 doubles, 7-5, 7-5.

Federal Way — Auburn beat the Eagles Wednesday, 4-1. Federal Way's lone win came from Lauren Lang and Mina Park at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-2.
