BASKETBALL WRAP: Decatur boys down Kentlake in OT; Beamer wins again

The Decatur Gators boys basketball team picked up a big overtime win over the Kentlake Falcons Tuesday night on the road, 84-80.

The Gators (2-1) withstood an impressive fourth-quarter comeback by the Falcons, who are expected to be one of the better teams in the South Puget Sound League North Division. Kentlake outscored Decatur, 30-18, during the final eight minutes of the game to overcome a 12-point Gator lead to start the fourth quarter.

But Decatur and senior guard Dom Hunter outscored the Falcons 8-4 during the overtime session. Hunter finished with 30 points and is averaging 18 points a game for the Gators. Markus Rawls ended up with 19 points, Abraham Ferrell-Logan had 15 and Jeff Bartley chipped in 11 points for Decatur.

Kentlake (0-2) also had four players in double figures, led by the 21 from Jaron Heck.

Beamer — The Titans improved to 2-0 in the SPSL South Division and 4-0 overall with a 65-45 win over Bethel Tuesday on the road. Beamer dominated the second half, outscoring the Braves, 33-15.

The Titans had three players in double figures, led by the 18 points of Thomas Rhodes. Juwan Flowers finished with 17 points and Luscious Brown scored 11.

Jefferson — The Raiders remained winless with a 72-52 loss to the Kent-Meridian Royals Tuesday night. The Royals jumped out to a 13-5 lead after the first quarter and led 30-14 at halftime. Kent-Meridian extended the lead to 59-24 after the third quarter.

Jefferson was led by Josh Duckworth and Daniel Park. The pair combined to score 37 of the Raiders' 52 points. Duckworth finished with 19 and Park had 18 points.

 

Girls basketball

Jefferson — The Raiders snagged their first SPSL North win of the season Tuesday over Kent-Meridian, 43-36. Jefferson got 18 points from Jada Piper during the home win.

Kent-Meridian outscored TJ, 9-3, during the first quarter, before the Raiders fought back to take a 15-12 halftime lead. Christy Kullberg and Jaylnn Piper both finished with seven points.

Beamer — The Titans dropped to 0-2 in the SPSL South Division with a 49-26 loss to the Bethel Braves Tuesday in Federal Way.

Bethel jumped all over in the first half, rolling out to a 35-10 lead at halftime. Beamer outscored the Braves, 16-14, in the second half. The Titans were led by four points each by Megan Anderson, Jamesa DuBois, Deja'Nay Gilliam and Carrie Lyn Ramos.
