SWIMMING: Federal Way divers dominate at district meet

The Federal Way school district exhibited its dominance Thursday at the West Central District Diving Championships at the Foss High School Aquatic Center.

District divers snagged five of the top-six finishes during the meet, which included the SPSL and Narrows leagues. Todd Beamer's Elizabeth Wiley won the district title with 372.80 points, outdistancing Jefferson's Madison Kellar (357.95). Jefferson's Monica Church finished up in third place with 335.10, Federal Way's Tia Thomas was fifth with 314.25 points and TJ's Shelby Church was sixth (309.20). All six will dive at the Class 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships at the King County Aquatic Center Nov. 11-12.

Federal Way's Kenna Ramey was the only district swimmer to win a district title in the pool. Ramey cruised to the title in the 100-yard butterfly in an automatic state-qualifying time of 59.15, outdistancing Olympia freshman Sarah Norman (59.73). Ramey, a sophomore, also finished second in the 50 free behind Kentridge's Emily Mohr in a time of 23.97.

Jefferson senior Amber Cratsenberg brought home a pair of silver medals from the district meet, which took place Friday and Saturday at the Rogers High School Aquatic Center.

Cratsenberg, who has won a total of three state championships during her career, finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:53.46 to Stadium's Felicity Cann. Cratsenberg was second to Kent-Meridian's Joanna Wu in the 500 free in 5:11.11. Wu won in 5:05.66.

Mount Rainier won the district title with 215 points, getting a pair of titles from Megan Kawaguchi in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. Kentlake finished second with 163 points. Federal Way was eighth with 75 points, TJ was 10th (60) and Todd Beamer was 13th (44).
