Walt Schrader’s wings a-ringing | Andy Hobbs

(Ring ring)

“This is Andy, can I help you?”

“Hey there editor, it’s your good friend Walt Schrader.”

“Well how’s my favorite local Republican today?”

“Can’t complain, my liberal media friend. Been living and breathing politics, especially in Federal Way. Man, it’s 10 o’clock – you working banker hours?”

(laughter) “Walt, you’re too much! What’s the latest word on the street?”

“I think it will be a Republican year. 2010 will be good to us. They’re predicting a Republican Wave. People seem unhappy with the Democrats. But you never know.”

“Hard telling. Either way, any incumbents are in trouble.”

“I agree. Hey listen my friend, I know you’re busy, but I wanted to see if you’d run our little announcement about the 30th District Republicans. We’re trying to get the word out about our Facebook page.”

“You got it, Walt. Before you go, there’s something important I want to tell you.”

“What, you registered Republican and got a Dino Rossi tattoo?”

“You’ll have to keep working on me, pal. Listen, I didn’t mean any harm with that column about tape recorders and the mayor race. I was just having fun with the issue.”

(laughter) “Oh yeah, with the part that made fun of my visit to your office? At least you didn’t use my name! (laughter) No worries, my friend. I’m a good sport.”

“You are a good sport, Walt.”

“Well listen my friend, I didn’t mean to take up too much of your time. I’m off to go door-belling for the campaign.”

“Right on. Good to hear from you. This will be an interesting election year. I’m sure we’ll cross paths again soon, Walt.”

“Absolutely, my friend. Take care.”

In memory of Walt Schrader, who died Monday, May 31, 2010. Always a pleasure to talk politics with you. — AH
