Take it from a conservative: Prop. 1 makes sense | Federal Way letters
My politics are pretty conservative. Concern for my family and friends takes a very liberal position. Tough economic times or not, South King Fire and Rescue’s Proposition One makes sense for the well being of all our city’s residents, is affordable and will retain our city’s standard of the highest emergency service rating in our state.
Anyone requiring emergency service within our area receives a response within four to six minutes. Obviously, if you’re having a heart attack, if you’re involved in an auto accident or if your residence is on fire, scheduling an appointment for later in the week to solve the problem won’t work. SKFR seeks to maintain their current level of service, and it is only through the prudent management of their cash reserves that we currently continue to benefit from their prompt services. Layoffs and outdated equipment don’t work in the emergency service industry.
Voting on Prop. 1 is not a scare tactic. It isn’t a political issue either. It is a shame that public information on Prop. 1 will be published in the voter’s pamphlet (which could reduce its credibility by association). Prop. 1 increases funding accountability through a public rate setting process, and it lowers property taxes by the amount of revenue collected. And, the best part, it isn’t a tax, and funds are not controlled by career politicians.
Hmmm. No brainer. Vote “yes” on Proposition One. Stay healthy.
