FW deserves an elected mayor | Letter to the editor

I am so envious of Seattle voters for how simple and effectively they can react to their frustrations with city governance.

In Federal Way, voters have no individual of authority to focus on. Our only recourse to effect change is by comparison, a scattershot method. It's not effective to wait until each poor decision maker's term expires and to un-elect councilpersons one at a time (if there's an opposition candidate on the ballot) and only when they're up for re-election.

We've suffered council decisions that were contrary to the expressed views of city residents. Voters in Federal Way deserve more power in decisions that affect us. Having a mayor that would be directly responsible to us, or for sure get turned out, is what we deserve. Recent experience shows that we'd have benefited in cost too if we'd had a strong mayor.

Marie Adair, Federal Way
