Smile, red light runners | Federal Way letters, March 27

Red light cameras. I am on the road a lot during the day and evenings due to my involvement with several bands.
I have to disagree with letter writer Leo Thoennes (March 18), who is against the cameras. I am a cautious driver and have avoided numerous near-hits from drivers running red lights.
There are several places where the cameras are needed. One at 21st Avenue South near Fred Meyer, and one at 312th Street and Pacific Highway. During evening hours, I have seen drivers go right through a red light. The $124 fine is fair, and if necessary, raise it to $200. This money could be well spent on road repairs and also pay the people who pick up the garbage along the roads left by inconsiderate and irresponsible human beings.
