Give a birthday wish to food banks

Thank you for the news article on the need for food at several of our local food banks (March 13, “Double whammy at food banks”). Hopefully, this article will send the message that these food banks need help year-round, especially low-income families with children.

Two years ago, I started a tradition of giving to the Multi-Service Center food bank in Federal Way. For my birthday each year, in lieu of a gift, I ask my family and friends to write a check to the food bank for whatever they feel they can afford. I can then walk into the Multi-Service Center and make the donation on their behalf. It is one way I feel I can give something back to those in need. Each donor is mailed a tax-deductible receipt and is recognized in the MSC annual report.

If we could get others on board with this program, just think of the difference it would make in the community.
