Admit our mistakes, Mr. President
June 13, 2008 · Updated 4:33 PM
We need a fresh start in Iraq. As it is, we are stuck and going nowhere but down.
President Bush should fire Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, which would be a fine acknowledgement of the administrations failed Iraq policy. Then the president could go to the United Nations, admit our mistakes in Iraq and ask the Security Council to take over our role as leader in rebuilding Iraq.
If the president refuses to do this on his own, Congress should withhold continued funding of the Iraq war until the administration promises, at a minimum, to turn over leadership of the Iraq reconstruction effort to the U.N.
