Protect, retain I-732

As a parent, voter and school employee, I am very worried about the decrease in our schools’ ability to maintain excellence in education if the Initiative 732 funding is suspended, repealed or amended in any way.

Our children deserve the best educators, and if Washington is not willing to pay for the best, those quality educators will continue to go to states that value their children’s education.

When the voters passed I-732, it was by 63 percent. That was truly the voice of the people saying they value educators. Unfortunately, Governor Locke and some legislators don’t seem to understand the will of the people. I will not support any legislator who does not support I-732 as it was originally voted-in by the voters.

When I changed jobs from being a nurse at a hospital to being a school nurse, I willingly took a 50 percent cut in hourly pay because I believe in providing health services to our kids in school. I didn’t willingly choose decreases in my pay due to higher out-of-pocket medical costs and premiums and no cost-of-living adjustment.
