The Legion needs you
June 13, 2008 · Updated 4:28 PM
I have been an American Legion member off and on for many years. I am a Navy (Korean War) veteran. I have always been proud of my time in the service. In recent years I have attended Veterans Day services in Tacoma, Fort Lewis and Auburn. I was contacted several years ago by the national Legion office again. I did rejoin, but I was not assigned to any post. Finally, I was contacted by Federal Way Post 232 about joining it, since I live in Federal Way. I attended several meetings, but I was so surprised at the few members who attended. Veterans, this is our own organization and we really should be supportive of it. We all have something in common: We all served our country during wartime, in all the different services and all the different wars. It is enjoyable to make new friends, both young and older and both men and women.
Since there are many military bases in this area and there are many retired veterans living here, our membership should be much larger. Many of the older cities surrounding Federal Way have long-established Legion posts.
We meet the first Monday of each month at Brooklake Community Center, 726 S. 356th St. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. Come join us in helping to make Federal Way a larger post in representing our state.
